this is an updates of our imac g3modification project. after release of our last video, there are changes in the operating system, and i want to share the new features with you guys. i will, in this video, show how the yosemite os work togetherwith imac g3 i7. the original imac is an all-in-one desktop with a powerpc g3 processor. the word "g3" added behind the word "imac" is to distinguish it from its subsequent generations.
we add "i7" after the name "imac g3" because we want to distinguish it fromthe latest imac i7 with a flat panel. for the same reason, if the modified imac g3, has an i5 cpu installed, i'll call it "imac g3 i5". this is the same flowerpower imac g3 i7 i have been using along. the case is the classic tear-shaped design, the colour is flowerpower.
this flowerpower model is relatively rare. as it was introduced in february 2001, and this continued in july 2001, for sale for a period of less than sixmonths. this is the isight camera. i use this vintage isight camera, just merely my personal preference you can have your own choice of latest model
of video cam attached to it. here is the side panel ... with no change compared with my previous videos. 3 usb 3.0, 1 firewire 400, 1 ethernet port. the setting of the side panel could be varied according to specific needs of different users. here is the power plug ... and there is a fan installed inside here.
the apple logo... hers is the handle. the blue apple logo here. and ... there is a dvd rom here. the dvd rom (is) becoming less important these days. now i am going to plug the cord with the imac and boot it up. there is a margin around the screen
the viewable area becomes smaller but it makes the outlook even more resembled with the original imac g3. the imac g3 i7 now is booting up the osx yosemite that's the start-up screen of the yosemite os. the margin is here. the wallpaper of the yosemite os. the hard ware inside this imac g3 i7 is (a) 2.3 ghz quad-cord intel i7.
besides, it has one 1tb (sata) hard disk here, one 500 gb sata supplementary hard disk, and 16 gb of ram. we haven't upgraded the hard ware merely upgrade the os because the motherboard (inside) is more powerful than that of the latest mac mini. so i don't see a need to upgrade it that frequently. since inside this modified mac
is a macintosh motherboard, buying new applications and upgrading os are as easy as an ordinary mac. here is the manual bar. the wallpaper here ... and the dock. the icons are different from (the) last version of os. they (the icons) are obviously being inspired by ios7.
now i click the apple. about this mac. osx yosemite ... version 10.10.1, which is thelatest one. and this is modified by myself ... imac 15 inches early 2014. and processor here ... 2.3 ghz intel core i7. memory 16 gb.
1600 mhz ddr3 storage ... 1tb here, and 500 gb of a supplementary hard disk; and this is an optical drive ................... ........................................ (-_- ) zzz and the memory ... two pieces of 8gb memory. this is the typical osx yosemite wallpaper. but we can change it,
in the system preferences. desktop and screen saver. i personally adore the flowerpower wallpaper. so i change it accordingly. now i'm going to show some applications i frequently use with. first of all, the time machine backup. i use this air port hard disk as the backup disk of this imac g3. and the hard disk icon appears here, and now i ... click the time machine icon
in the menu bar and back up now. there is 2.78 gb need to be backed up. and ... i have ... show to you the system preferences. in fact, there are many things that can be configure ... within the system preferences just like ... the dock ... the mouse ... the keyboard ... so on.
and then, the launch pack here ... the firefox ... i muted the woofers because there might be copyright for the music clip, so i just mute it and you can see the video. this imac can send or receive messages. and the mail here... dreamweaver cs6 and flash cs6... the neo office for word processing...
iphoto. as to the connectivity with other devices, i'm going to demonstrate it's connectivity with the latest devices, as well as the vintage devices. launch ... the itunes. when i activate the itunes, it will immediately detects my iphone 6. and we can sync with the imac g3 i7 wirelessly.
also, i am going to show you its connectivity with the classic ipod. here we have the firewire (cable) here, that's why we have a firewire 400 (jet) in this imac g3 i7. plug the firewire here and then the other end ... the original ipod. there is iphone 6 here, and ipod here.
as to the time machine backup, it has been completed. i'll eject the ipod. finally i'll show you the facetime camera. we plug the firewire cord with the imac. after we have connected the isight camera with the imac g3 i7, we can activate it and then we can make facetime calls and take photos using the isight camera. click the facetime (icon) ...
the screen will activated and you can make phone calls with the isight camera now. thank you for watching this update. bye bye!
